Yad Moss: snowboarding in England
Snowboarding in England only happens on dry slopes and giant indoor fridges these days, right? Err, no aparently. On one of the Flow bindings posts here, Bazx6r left the following comment:
Dude, we went up to Yad Moss on saturday, 2 hour drive to get there but it was worth it, the lift wasn’t running but we wont let a little thing like the spoil the fun and i had to carry my heavy bindings all the way up the hill ha ha, not many people there but all snow boarders very cool
Here are some photos from his day snowboarding Yad Moss, a ski hill in the north of England run by volunteers from the Carlisle Ski Centre.
Thanks for the pics.

What is that pulley thing? The lift that wasn’t working? Where are the chairs or t-bars or whatever?
that’s cool that you only had to drive 2 hrs to go boarding though - Mammoth (my fav mountain, where they got 8 feet in the past 5 or so days) is a 5+ hour drive for us Angelenos. :-) Luckily we have some local mountains where they also have been getting dumped on! Even the old LA Times commented on it.

Poma button tow: Length 560m: Vertical rise 125m: Top Station: 725m: 600 people per hour or at least that is what it says on the ‘Yad moss’ web site, but yes it is a pulley thing would sum it up. We have just had a load of snow dumped on scotland and that is a 5+ hour drive for us, but with the cost of petrol in the UK it would be cheaper to fly to france ha ha (£4.59 per gallon thats about $9.00 per gallon on your money)

Egads and we bitch about it stateside when it gets to US$3.50 per gallon. Hurrah for foreign oil dependence (I am being sarcastic…) :-P

Dude, Lee and I drove to aviemore in scotland on saturday, 6 hours in the car 6 hours snowboarding and then 6 hours back to southport in lancashire, UK (it was the best snow conditions they have had in 5 years) and the riding was great, we got funicular train up the mountain and then boarded back down over and over it was wicked, but drive is a killer, we have never done it before i don’t think we will do it again besides it cost £110 in petrol and i only drive a RAV4 ha ha

Cheers for the comment Russ. Who knows when we’ll have decent enough snow to snowboard in England again. Catch it whilst you can!
