Variety is the spice of life

Monday, 09. 8. 2008  –  Category: Site news

Regular readers might have noticed my last few posts have had little to do with snowboarding. Those of you who also visit the site and don’t just read the posts from your feed reader (sign up for our RSS feed here if you haven’t already) will have noticed the lick of paint, and the introduction of some new sections.

I figured over the summer that either the blog dies (no posts from April to July - bad) or I diversify and write about some of the other stuff I’m up to. So, I’ve introduced categories for the following:

  • Mountain Biking - something I want to do more of
  • The Great Outdoors - covering camping trips and the like
  • Running - have started doing a few events, and trying to keep fit for the next snowboarding trip
  • Music - might post a bit about music I like

Also a loose plan to get some more guest posters involved. More on that another time.

But what about the snowboarding Adam, I hear you ask? Well, that should remain centre stage, especially as we move back into winter.

A few other blogs are doing a decent job of balancing the summer and winter activities. WeKnowSnow do a fair bit of fly fishing when the snow isn’t around, and Adam and Simon at HighlyObsessed have been writing about cycling for a year or so now for example.

So hopefully all the hardcore boarders won’t all unsubscribe and shun us for going mainstream ;-) But let us know whether you think this is good move or not.

Nice work! If it’s anything like our blog you’ll hear a few grumbles but in the long run you’ll end up attracting a wider audience. Also, if you hear grumbling, you can always create cycling and snowboarding-specific categories via RSS so that your readers can subscribe only to what they want. :)

    Cheers

Thanks Adam, have been planning on making category specific feeds available when I get the time. Also a few design and structure things still to tweak.
