Whilst I’m not an iphone, ipod or any kind of Mac gadget user, I could see the sense in the Speedaura app for snowboarders who listen to tunes whilst out on the hill. Steve offer to write us a guest post, so here it is. Over to Steve…

“When I was learning to board last winter in Colorado the most annoying thing after catching edges during snowboarding was messing with my music. I’d watch even pro boarders take a tumble and the first thing they did was mess with their gloves to take out the earbuds or hit pause on the tunes. The same thing happens standing in lift lines.

iPhone SpeeduraI figured there had to be a better way and built speedaura. It’s a simple iPhone and iPod touch app that plays your existing iTunes music and uses the GPS to figure out how fast you’re going. If you are going fast, then it plays your music. But if you slow way down, then the app dials down the volume of your music and pauses it automatically for you. Bingo, no more messing with gloves, headphones and taking your music player out of your pocket to pause it. You can now hear everything when you stop without having to mess about.

This works if you catch an edge or you just stop to chat to buddies, or are standing around in the lift line.

It works too for driving, cycling and jogging. It’s kind of fun to use for all those because it makes you much more aware of your surroundings when you come to a stop light or are crossing the road. You’re not as distracted when the music dials down. No comment on making boarders more aware while on the slopes, personally I only listen with one earbud!

Give it a go and let us know how it works out!”
