Ski and board hire in the UK

Do you often find the gear you hire at the resort is shite? Sweaty boots with dodgy laces and big heel lift? Crappy bindings that come loose? Board more flexible than a credit card and not in your preferred size?
I met a company at the Metro Ski & Snowboard Show on Sunday that offer ski and snowboard equipment hire from the UK.
edge2edge are based in Crawley, West Sussex, and offer to drop off and pick up your hire gear for you from Waterloo Station, Gatwick, Heathrow or Manchester Airports.
The fella assured me as he tucked into an apres-ski-show bottle of beer (it was towards the end of the day) that their gear is brand new every season and they only get in quality equipment from the likes of Burton, Atomic and Ride.
My thoughts…
Pro’s
- Take your time choosing your gear.
- No language barrier with your hire shop (not usually a big prob in my experience).
- Brand new gear.
- Quality brands.
Cons
- Have to pay airline fees for snowboards… usually a stinger.
- Can’t take it back to the shop during your trip if something goes wrong or turns out not too fit quite as well as thought.
I’m all geared up, but will be going with some first timers a couple of times at least this season who will be hiring, plus the odd seasoned practitioner who doesn’t own gear. So what do you think?
