Burton and HP

Monday, December 31st, 2007

Burton and HP have partnered up to produce some marketing videos with some insight into Burton as a company, how they’ve grown, the design and marketing processes. Check out the microsite here.

Working in online marketing, I found this really interesting on a few levels.
Firstly, interesting to see how Burton have grown from […]

A new, organic freestyle / freeride run is being installed at Avoriaz for the new season, scheduled for Jan 08. The Stash at Avoriaz will feature a shedload of natural hits, rails and gaps and can be reached via the Prolays 6-pack chairlift.
There’s a pdf map of the course up on the Rude Chalets […]

Bonfire Radiant snowboard pants

Monday, January 22nd, 2007

I bought a pair of Bonfire Radiant pants just before my last trip. Here’s a review:

I was after a fair of fairly high spec pants, and the Radiant pants fit the bill at 10,000/10,000 waterproofing and breathability. These are the two stats you need concern yourself with when buying outerwear I discovered after […]

Electric EG1 goggles review

Sunday, December 10th, 2006

I’ve had a pair of Electric EG1’s since February, and more recently 2 pairs, but only wore them for the first time recently in Cervinia and Zermatt.

Here’s the review:

Having suffered in the past with sunglasses and goggles steaming up, I was desperate to get a pair of goggles that wouldn’t give me any of that […]

Snowboard workout program

Tuesday, December 5th, 2006

I found another snowboard orientated fitness program that looks pretty good. This one was set up by Ron McConnell, who trained Jake Burton after an accident acording to the website.
Since snowboarding involves many multi-joint movements that require a mixture of strength, balance, and flexibility, the conditioning program should reflect the same. The focus of […]

Salomon Dialogue snowboard boots

Monday, November 27th, 2006

I got a pair of Salomon Dialogue’s last season, and having just given them another outing thought I’d review them here.

Billed as a freestyle boot, the Dialogue’s also fair well free riding with a reasonably stiff flex. The lace system is Saloman’s PowerLace Pro, with a looped lace joined by a handle you […]

Burton “For Right or Wrong” movie review

Wednesday, November 8th, 2006

Burton held a party at South London’s Clapham Grand last night with a showing of their new movie “For Right or Wrong“. That’s my neck of the woods, so I went along.

The movie is more of a documentary style film than an out and out snowboard movie in the traditional sense.
It’s more or less […]

Setting up Flow bindings

Sunday, November 5th, 2006

Nothing seems to cause more dispute amongst snowboarders than the dispute over Flow bindings.
Added comfort vs. lack of control
No strap pain vs. extra weight
Cool as you like vs. WTF is that?
I’m currently using straps, but have used Flow’s a fair few times and am pretty sure the route of the problem many people have is […]

Electric EG.5 and EG1 goggles: what’s the difference?

Monday, October 23rd, 2006

UPDATE: I’m selling I just sold a pair of EG1’s on ebay but you can still buy them at Boardshop.co.uk
I bought a pair of Electric EG1 goggles online back in February, just before my last trip as it turned out. Unfortunately the postman must have nicked them, as they never arrived.

I […]

f2 Sonic snowboard

Sunday, February 12th, 2006

Just picked up this board (161 f2 Sonic) on my last day in Chamonix, but haven’t had a chance to ride it yet. Will report back when I’ve given it a go in February. For now all I can say is its fairly stiff, black with red trim and it looks mean.
I spent 4 days […]

Salomon Transfer snowboard

Saturday, January 7th, 2006

Following my old snowboard going AWOL after falling off a bubble lift in Chamonix, I took out a Salomon Transfer 160 on hire for a few days.
I found it to be an easy board to ride. It held turns well, wide carves and especially tighter turns. Also good fun for a bit of freestyle action.
Most […]

Flow Amp 5 bindings

Saturday, January 7th, 2006

It seems that for most people, you either love or hate Flow bindings. The first board I rode had a pair of Flow bindings attached, so I never knew anything else at the time.
The second time I went boarding I used the regular 2 strap type that we all know, and to be honest found […]

Salomon SPX44 bindings

Friday, January 6th, 2006

Just got them, will review in Feb once I’ve used them.

Salomon W4 snowboard

Thursday, January 5th, 2006

A good all moutain board.
Stiff flex, great for holding long carved turns.
Wider than average, great for cruising on powder and keeping your heels and toes on the board and not jabbing into the piste causing more face-plants than strictly necessary.
