Boarderweek at Val Thorens

Wednesday, December 13th, 2006

As the Alps start getting a bit more snow, Val Thorens kicks of their season proper this Saturday with Boarderweek.
Boarderweek sounds like Snowbombing in some respects… a combination of riding by day and live music and DJ’s by night.

I’ve got a soft spot for Val Thorens. It was the resort where I first strapped […]

Kicking Horse powder video

Tuesday, December 12th, 2006

Check out this video of Wade (TreePilot) and pals doing tree runs on the openning day at Kicking Horse, Canada…

Looks like a good amount of fresh pow. Nice one.

Morzine weather and webcams

Thursday, December 7th, 2006

In three weeks time I’m off to Morzine for ten days, staying over New Year. Really looking forward to it. There’s a good group of us going, including my girlfriend who will be snowboarding for the first time. Good on her! The only thing we need now is some snow…
So, I’ve […]

Cervinia/Zermatt weekend snowboarding trip

Tuesday, November 28th, 2006

After much anticipation, planning and build up, 12 of us went for a long weekend in Cervinia this weekend gone.
Whilst we stayed in Cervinia, most of the snowboarding was to be had in Zermatt, which joins the Cervinia ski area on the Italian/Swiss boarder, so taking your passport out on the hill is a must!
In […]

4 days til pow in Cervinia and Zermatt

Monday, November 20th, 2006

Am off to Cervinia on Thursday night after work and plan on riding both sides of the Italian/Swiss border in Cervinia and Zermatt.
According to Snow-Forecast.com there is a load of snow on its way over the coming days. The only potential problem is the risk of lifts being closed due to strong winds.
On the […]

National Ski and Snowboard week

Monday, November 13th, 2006

It is National Ski and Snowboard week here in the UK. Going with the super lame slogan: Give snow a go!
Well, its cheesey, but lets give them the benefit of the doubt. It looks like there’s a load of offers and freebies up for grabs, which is what this is all about […]

Zermatt weather and webcams

Tuesday, November 7th, 2006

I’ve got a snowboarding weekend in Zermatt coming up in a couple of weeks. The season has barely started so I’ve been keeping a close watch on the snow forecasts and the web cams.
I thought I’d share these with you in case anyone else is heading over, and give me easy access to the […]

Chalet food delivery service

Thursday, October 26th, 2006

I tend to do a lot more self-catering snowboard holidays than catered. This obviously means spending time and money in the local supermarché and boulangerie etc…
Another new service I stumbled upon at the Ski and Snowboard Show was an English company that allow you to pre-order your food with them before you leave for […]

Ski and board hire in the UK

Tuesday, October 24th, 2006

Do you often find the gear you hire at the resort is shite? Sweaty boots with dodgy laces and big heel lift? Crappy bindings that come loose? Board more flexible than a credit card and not in your preferred size?
I met a company at the Metro Ski & Snowboard Show on Sunday […]

Morzine freestyle video

Tuesday, September 26th, 2006

Am off to Morzine for 10 days over new year. Been looking around on YouTube and found this video.

Now, I’m more of a freeride kind of guy, so won’t be ripping it up like this dude. Cos, of course, I could if I wanted to. Honest guv.

Or maybe not!

Chamonix back country video

Wednesday, June 28th, 2006

Just watched this video on YouTube… bunch of guys hitting the Chamonix back country for a day.

Is pretty cool. Looks like a lot of walking to me though! Particularly feel for the guy getting stuck in the trees and pow around 6 or 7 minutes in to the vid. We’ve all been there!
Looking forward to […]

Zauchensee

Thursday, February 9th, 2006

Spent 4 days snowboarding in Austria last weekend and had an absolute blast. The first 2 days were spent at Zauchensee and the other 2 at Flachau. I’ll write up Flachau separately.
First, a bit of background on the trip:
We booked flights back in Novemeber 2005, return from Stansted to Salzburg for £40. We also […]

Altenmarkt and Zauchensee next week

Wednesday, January 25th, 2006

Off to Altenmarkt a week on Friday for snowboarding in nearby Zauchensee and a few other reports. Looking forward to giveing my new f2 Sonic board and spx 44 bindings a run out. Not used them yet.
Will report back.

Chamonix

Sunday, January 8th, 2006

Just came back from a week snowboarding in Chamonix.
Conditions were generally great. There was a massive dump after about 3 days, leaving fantastic powder for the remainders of our time there.
For those that haven’t been to Chamonix before, the town centre is a short bus ride from the various skiing areas. We spent most of […]
