2010-2011 snowboard season

New season around the corner and it’s time to rattle out a rare post with a quick update on my snowboard plans.

First up I won a week’s holiday in St Anton. In less than 4 weeks time I’ll be enjoying my first turns in one of the greatest resorts in the world for off-piste and generally great terrain. St Anton has long been high on my list of places to visit, so I’m thrilled to have the chance to do this at someone elses expense. The only thing on me was to book my flights to Innsbruck (about £120 return) and train transfers (a mere €40 return), and prepare to lap up 4-star half board luxury, top terrain, epic nightlife and Austrian hospitality. Will report back.
Otherwise, only one additional trip booked so far - a long weekend in Zell am See.
No new gear this season. Just a couple of DVD’s which I may review. In a nutshell though:
Deeper - 5/5 and highly recommended. It’s free with the currrent issue of onboard magazine so unbeatable value.
Nowhere - 3/5 - the new Absinthe movie. Some great shots in it, especially early on, but didn’t set my world on fire. Here’s the trailer.
So, what are you plans for the season ahead?
And drop a comment if you’ve seen any good snowboard movies as well.

On the other side of the pond here, but I take a similar approach planning our annual winter holiday. This season I’m really keeping my eye on the La Nina storm patterns to see where the snow is stacking up. My wife & I, and one other couple are heading to Breckenridge in a few weeks, just a quick weekend trip. During the winter, I’ll be riding my home mountains a lot (really, these are “hills” not “mountains”) and working on some urban stuff.
At the end of my local season which is usually mid- to late-March, I plan on heading back out to western North America (maybe as far as British Columbia) in late March or early April.
